Police Department
What do I need to do in order to purchase a handgun?
You must come to the Police Department and give your personal information.  A criminal history will be run on you to determine if you qualify for a permit.  There is a one day waiting period for the permit.  The permit will be dated and you have 10 calendar days to bring the handgun back in to register it in your name.


What do I do if my vehicle breaks down on the roadway?
Call 911 immediately.  If the vehicle is off the roadway, let 911 know you will be back to get it as soon as possible.  If not, stay with the vehicle until the Officer arrives.


Can my house be watched while I am away?
Yes, call the police department at 777-1666 and they will put your house on the list for checks.


Is there a cost for police reports?
Yes, the cost for a copy of a police report is $5.00.


What is required to apply for an Officers position with the Township Police Department?
You must have a four-year bachelor's degree and have completed the required Police Academy.  You must be MICOLES certifiable.


What are the office hours for the Police Department?
Our office is opened 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday.


Does the State Police still have a detachment here and can we get copies of their police reports?
No, their detachment moved out.  All State Police report inquiries go through their Grand Haven post.
