Can I rent a dumpster from the Township?
Yes. We have two sizes of dumpsters available. Our small dumpster is a three yard and can be rented for two weeks for $45 per dump. Six yard dumpsters are also available for two weeks at $75 per dump. We require a deposit (which includes one dump) equal to the dump fee at the time of rental.
How much is the Sanitation service from the Township? Service cost is $43.00 per quarter.
What holidays effect my garbage service? On the following holidays (except when on a Saturday or Sunday) your garbage service will be one day later than normal:
New Year's Day Memorial Day 4th of July Labor Day Thanksgiving Day Christmas Day
What time should I put my garbage out? Garbage collection begins at 7:00AM.
Does Muskegon Charter Township provide toters? No. You may purchase garbage cans at area stores. You may have as many cans as is needed. The cans must be 40 gallons or less.
Is there anything that the Sanitation Department doesn't pick up? Yes, we will not pick up batteries, tires, stumps, cement or building materials.
Is there a charge to pick up large items? No, not if you have our sanitation service. When you have large items or an excessive amount of trash, please call at least one day prior to your pick up day. If you do not have our service there is a charge of $5.00 per item.
Is there a charge to pick up appliances? Yes. There is a $5.00 per appliance fee. You may pick up the tags to attach to your appliances at the Township Hall.
How do I dispose of my medical waste? Put sharps (needles) in a purchased sharps container, an empty coffee can, an empty laundry detergent bottle or an empty bleach bottle. Tape the lid down with heavy duct or packing tape. Label the container with the words "MEDICAL WASTE" or "SHARPS CONTAINER" and set beside your trash can on the ground.
Do you pick up yard waste? Yes, yard waste is picked up the first full week of the month on your regular garbage day.
What is an acceptable container for my yard waste? Yard waste must be in biodegradable bags. Biodegradable plastic bags are available at Township Hall in the Treasurer's Department and at the Tire Wholesalers located at 1770 Holton Road. Biodegradable paper bags are available at local retailers.
How much do the biodegradale plastic bags cost? A package of 10 bags costs $3.25.
